I am also a certified Addiction Specialist, Mind-Body Eating Coach and Binge Eating Specialist. But more importantly than that, I am a human being and I have done the dieting, the shame, the confusion and feeling alone in difficulties around eating and weight. I understand how lonely and confusing this can feel. I have worked with many people who have felt the same way. I want you to know that you are not alone.
I am incredibly passionate about working with people struggling with addiction and the many forms it can take and have run many groups working with many individuals over the years. I believe that the food we are indoctrinated to eat by big food industries is designed to keep us hungry, get us addicted and keep us hooked.
I started my career in 2012 working in government institutions, lucky enough to gain experience in the eating disorder ward of Tara Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was the beginning of my curiosity about why, as humans designed to eat, we have ubiquitous eating challenges.
I have worked in many rehabilitation centres for drug, alcohol and sugar addiction since 2014 (to present), as well as a private therapist and educational content creator, with my passion and focus around self-compassion, emotional regulation and mindfulness.
Nutrition and psychology are both immensely complex, dynamic, evolving fields. Although we have made great strides (with some steps backwards) in these areas we are learning new things every day. I continue to learn new approaches and frameworks dealing with the fascinating subject of the psychology of eating.
